In our last post, Rich shared the first few steps in beginning a new design project. With sketches of a floor plan, he also illustrated how furniture could be arranged to accomplish the desired functionality of the room.
What are the next steps?
Rich then identifies the type and style of furniture that we want to use in the room. This is done through a combination of looking at the existing style in the house, or introducing a style that will companion well with that which already exists.
Once he determines the style of the furniture, he then starts looking at general color palate for the room. And after this, he looks at specific fabrics; starting with higher use fabrics, which are upholstery grade, followed by auxiliary fabrics (used for drapery, lightweight upholstery, pillows, etc.). All of these things are married to our wood pieces, (classified as case goods) – which are all married to the original style that we started with.
In our next blog, we will show you some specific fabrics and furniture that would be incorporated into the final design decisions for this room. Check back soon!
